As we prepared our website, I thought about its aesthetic. A good website draws people in. Each member of HitMouse has voiced their opinion on what it should look like, and I think it’s looking damn good. The idea came up, that each member maybe have an icon or something to represent them on the site. I may not be saying that correctly, so please consider that a loose paraphrasing. The Om symbol is what I’ll be going with.
It’s a symbol that I adopted for myself when I originally created business card; I wanted something simple, memorable, and packed with meaning. What does the Om symbol mean? Well, from what I can tell it doesn’t really have much of a meaning, or rather, it encompasses all meaning. I read somewhere that it was a symbol of mysticism stemming from creativity, or something to that effect. I liked it; a symbol with definition and without, that dealt in the realm of creativity. If I think about being an artist, and constantly trying to create new images, I feel like I can relate to the meaning of the symbol. It’s not a hard definition, set in stone like I normally prefer, which makes my liking the symbol and choosing it to represent myself all the more unusual.
I often view art, or its inspiration, as a mysterious connection to creativity, wherever it may come from. is it the collective unconscious, or maybe just a smattering of things buried within our own subconscious? I don’t know, but the symbol expresses these questions.
